Imagining objects connected to each other in the Internet network seems to be getting into reality. Therefore, not just smartphones or a computers that can connect to the Internet. Recently home appliances like Smart Air Conditioner, Smart TV, and other devices have been produced and circulated in the market. With the support of increasingly advanced Internet infrastructure, the era of the Internet of Things (IoT) is in sight. Things that mean everything connected to the internet and all physical goods can be monitored and controlled remotely using the internet. The IoT concept is the very encouraging development of big data and data center usage. Entering the Era of the IoT, every element of society must be prepared to follow the latest technology trends. Therefore, education should also begin to adopt technology. The IoT aims to expand the benefits of continuously connected internet connectivity. It makes the interaction of objects with objects; both can transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. The concept of the IoT is quite simple with work referring to 3 main elements in IoT architecture, namely: Physical Items equipped with IoT module, Connection Device to the Internet such as Modem and Router Wireless Speedy, and Cloud Data Center where to store the application along with the database. The main principle of the IoT is as a means to facilitate the control and control of physical goods, so the concept of the IoT is very possible to be used almost on all daily activities, ranging from education, the use of individuals, offices, tourism, industry, transportation, conservation, to science and technology. The IoT is widely contributed by the fields of science and technology. This multidisciplinary science can provide the creation of new science and technology as well as development for effectiveness and efficiency in work. Quality research from science and technology can change the paradigm of professionals and academics to begin to attack digitalization as material by various researchers. College as a milestone to face the rapid, disruptive technology becomes something that is very important in making innovations in science and technology. The rapidity of the IoT has a significant impact on changing community needs and the challenges facing disruptive technology. Disruptive innovation as a form of creating new markets, disrupting or destroying existing markets, and ultimately replacing these earlier technologies. This disruptive innovation develops a product or service in an unexpected way the market, generally by creating different types of consumers in new markets and lowering prices on the old market. The role of Science and Technology in addressing the real challenge of tech disruption can be as part of resolving global issues in the era of industrial revolution 4.0. Indonesia as a part of the progress of science and technology has a noble goal in facing the era of industrial revolution 4.0 through the development of research in the field of the IoT. The existence of Yogyakarta as a city of students gives the city known in the prestigious scientific event to show the existence of science and technology field in facing global issues. To date, a comprehensive discussion of the IoT is rarely encountered through conferences in Yogyakarta in general. Therefore, the selection of the IoT themes for Science and Technology is very appropriate given the multidisciplinary needs of the subject.
