Algorithm and Formal Model of Recovering Network Connectivity in Battlefield Surveillance

The adverse environme…Battlefield surveillance requires mission-critical operations and tasks which can effectively be performed using Wireless Sensor and Actor Networks (WSANs). We have used clustering approach for deployment of WSAN to minimize energy consumption and to limit the processing cost. The adverse environment conditions in battlefield may cause a loss of connectivity but there is a need of continuous flow of information in this application. Therefore an algorithm for network recovering is proposed. Firstly, graphical model of the system is presented using graph theory which is then transformed into a formal model by developing formal specification using Vienna Development Method-Specification Language (VDM-SL). Invariants and pre/post-conditions are defined for its validation. The correctness of the formal specification is assured by an analysis through VDM-SL toolbox.

There are various factors that lead t…Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) inherently are resource-constrained in terms of available energy, bandwidth, processing power and memory space. In these networks, congestion occurs when the incoming traffic load surpasses the available capacity of the network. There are various factors that lead to congestion in WSNs such as buffer overflow, varying rates of transmission, a many-to-one communication paradigm, channel contention and interference. Congestion leads to depletion of the nodes energy, deterioration of network performance and an increase in network latency and packet loss. As a result, energy-efficient and reliable state-of-the art congestion control protocols need to be designed to detect, notify and control congestion effectively. In this paper, we present a review of the latest state-of-the-art congestion control protocols. We analyze these protocols from various perspectives such as, their deployed environments, internal operational mechanisms, their advantages and disadvantages. Depending on their inherent nature of control mechanisms, these protocols are classified either as traffic-based congestion control or resource-based congestion control. Based on our analysis, we further subdivided these protocols based on their hop-by-hop and end-to-end delivery modes.

A comprehensive comparison of few algorithms …Channel estimation and equalization of sparse multipath channels is a real matter of concern for researchers in the recent past. Such type of channel impulse response is depicted by a very few significant non-zero taps that are widely separated in time. A comprehensive comparison of few algorithms in this regard has been provided. The algorithms simulated are LS, LMS and MP while simulation results along with observations are also presented in this paper. The metrics used for performance evaluation are Bit error rate (BER) and Normalized channel mean square error (NCMSE). On the basis of obtained simulation results, it is observed that MP algorithm requires shorter training sequence for estimation of channel response at the receiver as compared with LS. Furthermore, it is observed that MP has best performance while LS and LMS stand after respectively.

Software offshore outsourcing involves many risks, due to internal or external factors, that must be recognized and managed. Each organization that deals with the offshore outsourcing must be well aware of all the risk factors and barriers in the offshore outsourcing to maintain the quality of their product. It is very important for the Pakistan’s software industry to improve and maintain the quality of the products with minimal risk and compete with other countries in offshore outsourcing. The problem addressed in this research article is to minimize the risks occurring in offshore software outsourcing. For that purpose, we propose some offshore outsourcing risk mitigation guidelines for the software industry of Pakistan. We use empirical analysis and the qualitative method. A comprehensive literature review is carried out. The risk factors related to offshore outsourcing specifically for Pakistan’s software industry are generated empirically.

Different multi-tier authentication schemes exist in literature that overcome the weakness of single sign-on. This paper surveys state-of-the-art multi-tier authentication techniques, their vulnerabilities, security threats and their solution proposed over the period of 2012-2016. We compare the performance of existing multi-tier authentication schemes on three parameters, i.e., cost, usability and level of security. Multi-tier authentication schemes have been categorized into groups according to the factors involved in the authentication process. Scope

Special Issue of selected papers from conference Future 5V.

The aim of the EAI Endorsed Transactions on Internet of Things (TIoT) is to provide an ideal environment for crystallising original results and achievements in the Internet of Things domain. TIoT scope encompasses all areas related to the technologies and application fields related to IoT. In particular, original and outstanding results related to the research, development and implementation aspects of any technological, economical and sociological field that bears a significant relationship and impact on IoT.

While pursuing a rigorous scientific approach, TIoT will provide a voice to different communities, and will foster synergies between different fields. Computer Science disciplines closely related to IoT, such as Modelling, Networking, Embedded Devices and Security, will integrate novel results with Governance, Economical and Social studies in order to provide a clear and unifying vision for the upcoming IoT.

We invite submissions that present significant results in theoretical and experimental analysis and evaluation of technologies with specific areas including, but not limited to, networking for constrained devices, business models and applications, modelling, architectures and system design for smart objects, cooperative data processing for IoT, social impact of novel IoT technologies, security for embedded devices, semantic and behavioural aspects of interconnected devices.
