Compared with the fourth generation (4G) wireless communication system, the network capacity of the fifth generation (5G) wireless communication system is required to increase by a factor of at least 1000. To achieve this target, a paradigm of fog computing-based radio access networks (F-RANs) has emerged as a promising evolution path for 5G network architecture. By taking full advantages of distributed caching and centralized processing, F-RANs provide great flexibility to satisfy quality-of-service requirements of various 5G scenarios, such as real-time high-definition video streams and ubiquitous Internet-of-things (IoT) applications. Therefore, F-RAN has become a research hotspot, and draws a lot of attention from both academia and industry.
