Abstract
This research is motivated by several problems that exist in the Widyatama Group, Kemranjen Banyumas Regency including relatively low attendance of students to the library, relatively low general knowledge of students, relatively low awareness of students in reading activities, lack of parental attention in reading activities when at home. The aims of this study were 1) to describe the role of parents in providing an example of the character of a child's fond of reading as a student, 2) to describe the factors that support and hinder the role of parents in providing an example of the character of a child's fond of reading as a student. The type of research used is qualitative research with the case study method. The research location is in the Widyatama Group Korwilcam Dindik Kemranjen Banyumas Regency. The time for conducting the research is November 2021 to June 2022. Data collection techniques use observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques consist of data collection, data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The validity of the data with triangulation techniques. The conclusion of this study is that parents have not set the maximum example for their children in this case as a model in reading activities, directions and guidance of parents when at home the importance of reading has been done, giving advice and reminding them to read books, giving motivation to children when parents have done it at home in the form of advice.
