Abstract
UNICEF in 2023 showed that Indonesia is one of the 10 countries with the highest number of child marriages, with 25.53 million married under the age of 19. The proportion of marriages under 19 years old in South Kalimantan is 0.54%, and in Banjar Regency is 0.63%. This can have both physical and psychological impacts. This study aims to analyze the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, gender roles, and culture towards the decision to marry early, as well as to describe the community's perception of early marriage from various perspectives. This research is a mixed-method study, consisting of quantitative research (cross-sectional design) and qualitative research (phenomenological approach). The study population includes young girls in the working area of the Martapura Timur Health Center. The quantitative sample consists of all young girls in one designated school. The research instrument is a questionnaire that has been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test.In-depth interview results indicate that the main trigger for early marriage is unwanted pregnancy. The study concludes that there is a relationship between attitudes and the decision to marry early among young girls in the wetlands area, and the identified trigger for early marriage is unwanted pregnancy.
