Abstract
One of the competences in writing Indonesian that should be mastered by Indonesian as second language learners is academic writing. This study aims to explain that comics become one of the efficient instructional learning that can be used for learning academic writing for foreign students. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach using a case study research strategy. Data sources of this research are foreign students and library documents. Data collection techniques carried out by interview, observation, and study of documents. As for testing the validity of the data carried out by triangulation of methods and sources. Data analysis techniques are done by means of interactive techniques by finding new knowledge from a collection of interviews, observations and literature studies that have been obtained. The results of this study indicate that comic as instructional learning is considered capable of being an efficient supporter of academic writing learning. It’s because comics as instructional learning makes foreign students more interested in understanding and mastering the learning of academic writing. The visuals and illustrations shown in the comics make foreign students better understand academic writing learning. The flow in the comic media is also considered appropriate to convey the message in the form of learning material content.
