Abstract
This paper confers Ahmad Hassan’s and Taqiyyudin Nabhani’s concept of khilafah. Their thoughts about it represent radical form of understanding Islam. Using a descriptive-analytic methods, the authors examine how the two Muslim clerics discuss the issue of Khalifah in modern context. The collected data are examined by classifying them into the similarities and differences of their thoughts over the issues of khalifah or Islamic state. This study finds that both authors tend to propose Islamic system of politics by proposing the concept of khilafah instead. A. Hassan contextualizes it in the application of democratic nation state system such as in Indonesia by preferring Islamic law to be based as one of principles of the nation. In contrast, Taqiyyuddin an-Nabhani proposes the application of khilafah more exclusively.
