Abstract
This research is motivated by the demands of the 21st century world development as well as progressively growing information and technology. Portable e-comics in this study are utilized as a tool for Bahasa Indonesia teaching material for class IX students using a digital media device (gadget) as an effort to improve the literacy ability. Based on the results of the inferential statistics test, it can be interpreted that the Asymp value. Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.000 <0.05, showing that Indonesian language teaching material based on portable e-comics can significantly improve the literacy ability. This is also supported by the validation results of the material and learning experts. Similarly, the results of the students' questionnaire on the ease of understanding Bahasa Indonesia teaching material in the form of portable e-comics, the attractiveness of presentation, and the ability to improve literacy abilities.
