Abstract

Studies have shown that sports student exchange programs are beneficial for students’ self-development, learning motivation, and social engagement. While self-confidence is critical for sports students pursuing careers as athletes, coaches, sports therapists, sports scientists, and physical education teachers, limited research discussed the importance of exchange programs for students’ self-confidence. Meanwhile, environment and life experience, such as joining an exchange program, may boost the student's confidence. This study explained the contribution of sports student exchange experience's to students’ self-confidence. It is descriptive quantitative involving sports exchange students from the Faculty of sports science, UNNES, who conducted an exchange program at the department of physical and health education, the Faculty of Education, UiTM. The primary data were gathered by spreading a set of online questionnaires. The study concluded that students who conducted this international exchange had solid self-confidence. The students perform a very high self-confidence for their level of believing in their ability and having a positive attitude toward themselves. They have a high level of self-confidence for their independence and optimism. Seeing that self-confidence could direct a student to higher achievement, this research would suggest students enhance their self-confidence by immersing themselves in a good environment and challenging themselves in many activities.
