Abstract
Pekalongan coastal communities are the ones most affected by the continued decline in land surface. In conditions of such widespread information disclosure, why doesn't climate change information trigger them to know about it? This article provides a discourse on poverty and awareness of climate change in the Pekalongan Community. The method used in this research is an ethnographic study. People living in poverty tend to focus more on meeting basic needs rather than thinking about the long-term impacts of climate change. In addition, poor people have limited access to education, thereby hampering knowledge about climate change. This research is useful for handling climate change in Pekalongan which must be in accordance with the needs and context of the community. Efforts to increase awareness of climate change must be carried out through targeted policies, education and social campaigns.
