Abstract

This paper investigates the effect of learning strategy and cognitive style on students’ ability in writing Indonesian narrative writing text. It was conducted on the VII grade students at MTs Ibnu Taimiyah Bogor, West Java. This experimental study applies treatment by level design and two-factorial ANOVA analysis with α = 0.05. The sample was 80 students grouped into experiment and control classes. Writing test and GEFT instruments were used in collecting the data. The findings showed the students’ ability in writing narrative text taught by inquiry-based communicative learning strategy was higher than those taught by expository-based communicative learning strategy.
