Abstract
We study the impact of digital technology on the export product quality of Chinese manufacturing enterprises using data from China's Customs Database and China's Industrial Enterprise Database from 2000 to 2013. Results demonstrate that digital technology can improve enterprises' export product quality. Digital technology's promotion impacts on export product quality are particularly substantial on export product quality. They are more significant for enterprises in general trade, technology-intensive products, private enterprises, eastern regions, and small and micro enterprises. The mechanism test demonstrates that digital technology impacts the enterprises' export product quality through enterprise costs, productivity, and management effectiveness. Expansion analysis indicates that digital technology can improve multi-product enterprises' export product quality more significantly, increase enterprise export intensive margin, and decrease enterprise export expansive margin.
