Abstract

With population growth, the shortage of medical resources is inevitable and irresistible. Interdisciplinary research between artificial intelligence and the medical field is a current research hotspot, and diabetic retinopathy is one of the more mature areas of research. This paper reviews the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in the diagnosis and prediction of diabetic retinopathy from three perspectives: attention-based mechanisms, feature fusion-based methods, and methods combining both. It also analyzes how each method improves diagnostic efficiency and accuracy. This paper aims to discuss the development and latest achievements of AI in this field, to identify the milestones and future directions of AI development.
