Abstract
This research will discuss the development of teaching materials based on local wisdom from North Sumatra for class VIII students at SMP N 6 Medan. The research method used is the Borg and Gall development model. The application of explanatory text material based on the local wisdom of North Sumatra is expected to be able to provide new learning experiences to students, because the textbooks that students usually use do not include learning based on the local wisdom of North Sumatra. The results of this research show that teaching materials based on the local wisdom of North Sumatra have good suitability for use as new learning in Indonesian language lessons.
