Abstract
This paper uses the LMDI decomposition method to investigate the extent to which economic development, industrial level, population size, urbanization, energy intensity, and energy structure affect total energy consumption in the PRD region during the period 2014-2021. The findings show that economic development and population growth are the main factors driving the rise in energy consumption, while industrial level and energy intensity can curb the growth of energy consumption to the maximum extent. Finally, in response to the findings, recommendations are made that the PRD region should continue to improve energy governance, promote green structural transformation of energy, and cultivate residents' energy-saving and environmentally friendly consumption concepts.
