Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze the sector's economic potential in the development of West Sumatra Province, and to identify potential economic sectors in the province with competitive advantages and specialization. The LQ (Location Quotient) analysis used in this study to identify economic sectors in the development of West Sumatra Province, and also potential competitive sectors. Time series data on GDP growth between the study area and the reference area aids the analysis. The findings indicate that the transportation and warehousing sector, as well as agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, are the main basis for the sector in West Sumatra Province's district from 2016 to 2020, while the city of Padang's main base is agricultural, forestry, and fisheries.
