Abstract

Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia face increasing challenges from globalization, requiring them to adopt effective change management strategies to ensure long-term sustainability. This study examines the integration of curriculum development, institutional transformation, and business strategies in the context of Ar-Risalah Islamic Boarding School. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis, focusing on how changes in these areas contribute to the institution's adaptability and growth. The findings reveal that transitioning the school's management to a waqf foundation has enhanced its sustainability by aligning community involvement with the Kiai's grand vision. The integration of Islamic and formal curricula has bridged the gap between religious and general education, fostering holistic student development. Furthermore, independent business initiatives, such as agriculture, fisheries, and waste management, have supported financial independence, enabling investments in educational quality and community empowerment. These insights provide a model for other Islamic boarding schools to adapt while maintaining their traditional values.
