Abstract

The use of fixed orthodontic appliances among young adults has been increasing along with growing awareness of dental aesthetics and oral health. This study aimed to measure the impact of fixed orthodontic appliance use on the quality of life of users in Padang City using the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) questionnaire. The reliability test showed a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.810, indicating that the instrument is reliable and valid. The study involved 112 respondents, the majority of whom were female (85.7%) and held a bachelor’s degree (59.1%), with 39.1% having used the appliance for 0–1 year. The results showed that 37 respondents had a high quality of life, 50 had a moderate level, and 25 had a low level. These findings indicate that the use of fixed orthodontic appliances does not significantly reduce quality of life and emphasize the importance of orthodontic care that considers patients’ psychosocial well-being.
