Abstract

Mobility is known to drastically affect the performance of wireless ad hoc networks. Link breakages resulting from node mobility are among the primary causes leading to degradation in network performance. Recent research on cooperative communication demonstrates that spatial diversity achieved through cooperating nodes can significantly improve the performance of wireless networks. In this paper, we investigate the impact of introducing nodal cooperation to mitigate the adverse effects of mobility on network performance. Results show that utilizing a cooperative MAC sub-layer helps in improving the network's performance even when the participating nodes are mobile.
