Abstract

In this paper we discuss several methods to detect the bursti- ness of the incoming tra±c that arrives to aWeb system that provides Quality of Service. Several burstiness factors are de¯ned to be included in an adaptive algorithm that needs to check some variables of the Web servers constantly to avoid an unexpected overload situation. These factors are used as the main sources to perform an e±cient adaptive time slot checking scheduling that reduce considerably the overhead of monitoring. Several simulation scenarios have been tested in a locally distributed cluster-based Web infor- mation system to know the impact of the burstiness factor on the whole performance of the system.
