Abstract
The energy constraint in wireless sensor networks is a crucial issue affecting the network lifetime and connectivity. To realize true energy saving in a wireless environment and ensure reliable communications, the noise condition of the wireless channel should be taken into account. In this paper, we propose a cluster-chain routing protocol (CCRP). Besides, we devise an adaptive power adjustment strategy which can dynamically adjust transmission power according to the receiver noise condition and the distance between the transmitter and receiver to ensure the required Packet Reception Rate (PRR). The adaptive power adjustment strategy is incorporated into CCRP to form a novel protocol---cluster-chain channel adaptive routing protocol (CCARP). Simulation results indicate that CCRP and CCARP outperform LEACH by at least 300% for a 200mx200m network when the scenario of 1% dead nodes is considered.
