Abstract

This paper presents fiber-optic microcell systems to facilitate coordinated multi-point transmission/reception (CoMP) and wireless relaying. The design of cyclic prefix (CP) in OFDM signal is discussed to clarify the allowable optical fiber length difference between micro-eNBs. Theoretical CNR performance is described for the two types of optical devices such as FP-LD and DFB-LD. Receiver sensitivity in uplink is pointed out as the overall system performance. Fiber-optic relay node (RN) is also proposed as one of Layer 1 relaying. The transmitting CNR and the link gain of RN are discussed. This strategy will play a role in realizing smart and broadband distribution networks such as LTE-advanced and beyond.
