Abstract

Recently, there has been more interest in Layer 2 MPLS based services, which support LAN and legacy traffic, are lower cost, simpler to manage and more scalable. Virtual private LAN service (VPLS) is an emerging layer 2 MPLS based service that offers multi-point connectivity, making enterprise LANs in multiple sites appear as if they are on the same LAN. VPLS sites are connected in fully meshed topology over MPLS using multiple P2P label switching paths (LSP) which leads to wastage of bandwidth. Multicast has been proposed to be a suitable solution for VPLS service over MPLS, however, MPLSs TE support is provided over using point-to-point (P2P) LSPs. The functionality and signaling of point to multipoint (P2MP) LSPs are not supported in existing MPLS Architecture. In this paper we propose a solution for point-to-multipoint tree establishment by means of mobile agent paradigm, while taking into account, resource management and quality of service.
