Abstract

In this paper, a novel protection structure i.e. pre-configured multi-dimensional protection (p-MDP) structure is proposed against simultaneous m-link failures in high capacity and large scale optical transport networks (OTNs). The principles of p-MDP are proved, which shows that there are m+1 internally node-disjoint paths between any two nodes on p-MDP. It can provide 100% recovery to any m-link failures, and use less protection resource than p-Cycle. Heuristic algorithms of construction, protection and fast restoration on p-MDP are proposed in static optical transport networks. Numerical results show that, p-MDP can improve the survivability of optical networks, and it has lower redundancy but a bit longer recovery time than p-Cycle in dealing with the same number of simultaneous multi-link failures.
