Abstract

Recently, an approach to unify the single carrier (SC) scheme and the multi-carrier (MC) scheme was proposed by means of the weighted-type fractional Fourier transform (WFRFT). The WFRFT communication systems can work not only in SC scheme or MC scheme, but also a mixed scheme that both of the SC and MC signals are transmitted in the same frequency bandwidth simultaneously. As a unified carrier scheme, the WFRFT systems inherit the properties of both SC and MC, of course, including the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) issue. In this paper, we study the PAPR of the WFRFT systems and demonstrate that it has an intermediate state between those of SC and MC systems. The PAPR of the WFRFT systems can be modified with the transform order of the WFRFT and reduced by current methods of the PAPR reduction.
