Abstract

The high-performance video coding is activated as a research project of the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group in the year 2008, and a new standardization is already under discussion and preparation. This paper gives a brief introduction to the development of this project and an overview of the related concepts and technologies. The performance of the described technologies is demonstrated by means of the reported experiments carried out following the common test conditions designed by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group.
