Abstract

Cognitive Radio (CR) is a new emerging breakthrough technology which has strong potentiality to impact the way of spectrum access and management in future, as well as being a perfect scheme to solve the current spectrum scarcity problem. Meanwhile, the digital switchover in the UK has brought new potential TV spectrum resource for the future CR technology. In this paper, we have explored the opportunistic TV bands access with CR spatially and an estimation model of the available digital TV (DTV) channels for CR operations. More specifically, we have analyzed the simulation result from different perspectives, and by several schemes to make a comprehensive and profoundly study on the available spectrum for CR in the UK, as well as highlighting the CR network construction in future.
