Abstract

This paper studies the effects of channel estimation in WiMAX system. Not too long has passed from IEEE802.16 standard emergence, but this wireless technology is about to revolutionize the broadband wireless industry. This technology is designed to provide wireless last mile broadband access in Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), delivering performance comparable to traditional cable, DSL or T1 offerings. In this paper the channel estimation is based on the principle of Pilot symbol Aided Channel Estimation (PACE). The algorithms used here are based on the Least Squares (LS) and the Minimum Mean Squares Error (MMSE) approaches supported by piecewise constant, linear, second order and lowpass interpolations. Our result will quantitatively demonstrate the effect of LS and MMSE channel estimation algorithms in frequency domain with different interpolation approaches for coded and uncoded IEEE802.16d standard of WiMAX system.
