Abstract

This publication summarizes the results of four interview sets that were conducted during the years 2005, 2006 and 2007 to analyze an existing wireless city network – Sainet – and its potential. Sainet was opened to the public in 2002 and is being used to study open access networks with multiple service providers. The first interviews (2005) covered the consumer sector and analyzed user views on public wireless access. The second set of interviews (2006) focused on finding potential service providers and services that could be offered in a public access network. Concurrently with the second interview an interview for potential users of the services (2006) was conducted to analyze users’ opinions on the proposed service ideas. Final interview set (2007) focused on changes in user opinions and behavior from 2005 to 2007. The results of the user interviews are not favorable for local services but Sainet encourages local companies and organizations to make increased efforts to develop local content.
