Abstract

In the conventional ordered successive interference cancellation (OSIC) algorithm for Vertical Bell Laboratories Layered Space-Time (V-BLAST) systems, the pseudo inverse of the channel matrix and the ordering process lead to high computational complexity and large system delay. Parallel interference cancellation (PIC) is introduced and a hybrid OSIC/PIC detection algorithm for V-BLAST systems is proposed in this paper. Only P layers’ signals instead of all the layers’ signals are detected using OSIC method first, and then the output signals after the interference cancellation pass through a PIC detector with low complexity and small delay. It is shown that the proposed detection algorithm can lower the computational complexity without performance loss when the parameter P is appropriately chosen and the computational complexity can be reduced greatly within tolerable BER performance degradation by choosing a smaller P. Moreover, it is more suitable for V-BLAST systems with a larger number of antennas.
