Abstract

In this paper, a bit-loading scheme is proposed for multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) spatial multiplexing systems. Minimization of average bit error rate (BER) criteria is employed under the requirement of total bit rates and equal power allocation to each transmit antenna. Bisection method is utilized to select transmit constellations that make the BER of every transmit substream equal. In contrast to the transmit power allocation scheme, the requirements on the dynamic range of the power amplifiers are reduced in our scheme without the performance loss. Simulation results have shown that the proposed scheme could provide superior performance over the conventional MIMO system.
