Abstract

Multicarrier time division duplex-synchronous code division multiple access high speed downlink packet access (Multicarrier TD-SCDMA HSDPA) is proposed to be the next step evolution of TD-SCDMA networks. Compared with single carrier system, multicarrier TD-SCDMA HSDPA not only provides higher data rate but also offers potential higher spectral efficiency due to the frequency selectivity gain inherent in multicarrier operation. In this paper, the evolution of TDSCDMA to multicarrier TD-SCDMA HSDPA is discussed and the source of higher efficiency is evaluated in detail. User scheduling and resource allocation schemes are designed to exploit the multiuser diversity gain in both the time and frequency domain. Dynamic system level simulation is used to investigate the various aspects of system performance.
