Abstract

Based on a control-theory model of resources ondemand allocation (DA) protocol, which is widely adopted in multimedia satellite communication systems, effects of the protocol on the statistical characteristics of arrival traffic are theoretically analyzed. It is found that the burstiness of the traffic is weakened after being processed through the DA protocol. Then a combined admission control algorithm with the DA protocol is proposed. And the proposed algorithm is compared through simulations with one that does not take into account the DA protocol. Results show that within certain admission thresholds the suggested algorithm can admit more connections and improve the utilization of satellite link resources.
