Abstract

We consider the problem of building Web information retrieval mechanism through distributed solution based on Peer-to-Peer technology. We describe a prototype system called IOSUW (Interest-Oriented Search Union of Web servers) that is currently under development in our group. IOSUW provides a highly distributed global indexing and query execution services which are based on the organization of P2P overlay. IOSUW is different from many other approaches to P2P search in that it aims to achieve the interest-oriented search results for users. We give an overview of the proposed system and discuss the basic design choices. We also give preliminary simulation results on the web collection of about 3k web pages. The simulation shows the result of IOSUW and indicate three recommending approaches for users to make use of IOSUW.
