Abstract

Optical burst switching has been evolving so rapidly that it has great influence on the next-generation optical Internet. This article presents the design and discusses the implement of microsecond-level forwarding optical burst switching testbed using JET protocol. A flexible "link list operation based hardware + parallel processing" is proposed to perform burst forwarding. The typical value of processing time in core router is about 1.5 mus. High-speed optical switching matrix is also developed, the switching time of which is about 60 ns. The key design issues are presented. And the experimental results show the important parameters of the testbed, and indicate that the round trip time mostly relies on the assembly strategy in our testbed, because of high-speed forwarding processing in the core routers.
