Abstract

Based on the inherent characteristic of the contention relation between flows in ad hoc networks, the notion of the link's interference set is introduced in this paper to extend the utility maximization problem formulating the multirate multicast congestion control problem in wireline networks to the problem in ad hoc networks. As the maximum function in the constraints makes the problem nonseparable, the penalty function method and the subgradient method are applied to obtain the optimal solution for the problem. Correspondingly, the multirate multicast congestion control algorithm MMCC is proposed. MMCC can be implemented in a parallel fashion at each receiver/link. Also, MMCC is distributed, scalable and low-overhead. The simulation results illustrate that it can quickly approach the global optimum.
