Abstract
Using data from the Truven Health Analytics MarketScan Databases, we study the characteristics of pregnant patients with pregestational diabetes and their pregnancy outcomes. We investigate whether there is a significant difference in pregnancy outcomes between women who have pregestational diabetes and those who don’t. We find that patients with pregestational diabetes stay hospitalized longer and that pregestational diabetes is associated with a higher risk of delivering high birth weight babies and preeclampsia.
