Abstract
This paper studies the context of 39 different countries’ healthcare systems up to 2019 by applying the output-oriented variable return-to-scale model (VRS) of data envelopment analysis. 4 input variables (health expenditure per capita and beds, physicians, and nurses per thousand people) should result in the best 4 output results (life expectancy at birth, death rate per thousand people by communicable and non-communicable diseases, percentage of diabetes prevalence and mortality of cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes or chronic respiratory disease). Efficient and super-efficient systems are identified and Mexico’s system is discussed as an example.
