Welcome to Verona and to the Fifth International Conference on Communication System Software and Middleware (COMSWARE 2011). After three successful conferences in India, COMSWARE moved to Europe for the first time in 2009 and was held in Dublin.
The telecommunication industry is in the midst of great changes. The drive towards achieving competitive advantage is shifting towards the ability to develop efficient software solutions and to provide services to meet the customers' needs. To reflect this trend the focus of this year's conference highlighted the role of software solutions for the telecommunications industry and in particular, the role of innovative architectures and approaches for wireless communication and mobile computing.
The COMSWARE 2011 program committee selected 10 research papers among 35 submissions for presentation at the conference. In addition, industry papers and position papers were selected for presentation. Each submission was reviewed by at least three members of the international program committee. The accepted papers cover a wide range of topics ranging from communication protocols and sensor networks to service computing and architectures for mobile computing.
The COMSWARE technical program features two tracks. The case study track contains papers reporting on industry experience and experiences in applying communication systems and middleware. The track allows practitioners and industry participants to share problems, solutions, and experience and aims at helping academic and other participants better understand relevant industry challenges. The research paper track features latest advancements in science on telecommunication software and middleware. In addition to regular papers, the program committee selected position papers that present interesting work in progress in this area. The technical program also features two keynote presentations.
