Abstract

This paper formulates a framework for survivability of passive optical network (PON). Based on this framework, the survivability of PON is characterized by the expected survivability function. According to this, we compared the survivability of several current topologies for PON, and then we propose and theoretically demonstrate a ring-star topology which has better performance in survivability and flexibility.
