The aim of CHINACOM is to bring together Chinese and international researchers and practitioners in communications, networking and information technologies to showcase the latest advances in these areas. Following the big successes of CHINACOM'06-'10, CHINACOM'11 will be held in Harbin, China, one of the most beautiful cities in China, on Aug. 17-19 2011. The conference will be technically sponsored by Create-Net and Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT). CHINACOM is developing into a premier annual international conference for the presentation of original research advances in the field of communications, networking and advance information technologies. The conference will consist of four technical symposia, panels, workshops and tutorials. The technical sessions will present original research of fundamental or practical significance, while the panels and workshops will focus on recent developments, emerging applications, related business issues, and special topics. Original contributions on recent advances in testbed developments and design and experimental evaluations of systems and subsystems are particularly encouraged.

    • An Efficient Fast Handoff Scheme with Network Mobility in Heterogeneous Networks

In this case, when whole mobile networks move from the visiting network to another, the handoff attracts the attentions especially. The exited handoff methods with network mobility merely extended the scheme of handoff in MIPv6 or integrated the exited methods into the uniform scheme but it can not make the good effect to really and truly solve the fast and smooth (packet lossless) handoff in heterogeneous wireless networks. In this paper, the fast handoff scheme is given and it provides Multi-Mobile Router (MMR) with a vicinage table to keep information about their vicinages access router. Using this method, it performs the Fast Handoff with network mobility effectively in heterogeneous wireless networks. In addition, we introduce the new entity TCS (temporary control server) to manage MMR procedure in order to complete fast handoff and reduce the power consumption of MMR. By analysis and simulations, we demonstrate that fast handoff scheme has the better performance than Basic NEMO.

The adaptive algorithm is based on instantaneous channel state information (ICSI). Because of time variability of wireless channel, the instantaneous bit error rate (BER) performance of cooperation is not always better than non-cooperation. At the beginning of each frame, whether DF cooperation or direct transmission will be adopted during the frame is decided according to ICSI. Simulation results show that the Adaptive DF cooperative diversity can improve the average BER performance than traditional DF cooperative diversity. Moreover, it consumes less energy and time, and occupies less channel resource.

International Roughness Index (IRI) has been widely used to measure pavement smoothness because it can provide a consistent rating for different measurement tools. However, existing measuring tools based on IRI are usually very expensive. In this paper, we present a low-cost vehicle-based solution, Road Condition Monitoring with Three-axis Accelerometers and GPS Sensors (RCM-TAGPS), by using a cheap three-axis accelerometer and a GPS sensor embedded in a vehicle to monitor the road condition. We analyze the Power Spectral Density (PSD) of pavement roughness, estimate IRI, and classify the pavement roughness level into four levels according to a Chinese industry standard. Experimental results show that RCM-TAGPS can evaluate pavement roughness level correctly, even under some interference like potholes, manholes and decelerating belts, and the total cost of RCM-TAGPS in each vehicle is no more than 50 dollars, which is about 1/4400 to 1/160 of the existing system used in civil engineering and municipal engineering.

As to the issues of resource allocation and performance improvement in complex time-frequency fading channels, the proper time-frequency mathematics methods are encouraged to be utilized. Our research team has been interested in the weighted-type fractional Fourier transform (WFRFT) ever since 2007, and then introduced it into communication systems. The WFRFT comprises a co-modulation process of single-carrier (SC) scheme and multi-carrier (MC) scheme, by utilizing which a new hybrid-carrier (HC) scheme is proposed. We believe that the different carrier schemes have different adaptabilities to diverse fading channels, and a cooperative HC scheme will lead to a better performance. Meanwhile, the current communication systems have an alternative of SC or MC, or they could be adopted in down-link and up-link respectively sometimes. In this regard, a HC system is able to, not only provide the compatibility with SC and MC, but also achieve a smooth and seamless transition between the two. So a few of technical or non-technical conflicts caused by the incompatibility of SC and MC can be released. We are now researching on the basic theory, mechanism of convergence, essential techniques and feasibility study of cooperative HC scheme, preparing to share some ideas on system design and techniques selections of future communication systems.

In the simple SLM cascaded with iterative TR method, the candidate signal which has the minimum PAPR is selected. However, since the number of iteration L of the largest peak values will be reduced by TR, in the proposed method, the candidate signal which has the minimum (L+1)th peak to average power ratio is selected among other candidates in the SLM process. From the performance comparisons between various PAPR reduction methods, we verified that the PAPR reduction performance of the proposed method achieves the better reduction performance and power efficiency.
