Abstract

In this paper, we propose a novel two-step search scheme for Impulse-like Radio Ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) in order to utilize the Multipath Components (MPCs) effectively. The search scheme includes two successive steps, named coarse acquisition and fine acquisition. During the coarse phase, two adaptive template signals are generated to correlate with the received signals respectively. By this means, the search region is decreased rapidly. Then based on new search region a full serial search scheme is used during the fine phase. This algorithm utilizes the paths with relatively significant energy, and has a remarkable reduction in mean acquisition time. Further more, it also addresses the channel estimation based on which a Partial RAKE receiver could be designed expediently. Simulations are performed to verify our conclusions.
